A commission is not a transaction. It is a conversation between what you feel and what I can put on canvas.

Commission a Painting

Maria accepts a small number of commissions each season. A custom painting means a one-of-a-kind work made specifically for you — your home, your wall, your story. All commissions are executed in oil on canvas in Maria's Nantucket studio.

What Maria Paints on Commission

  • Coastal and seascape scenes — including specific beaches, harbors, or locations meaningful to you
  • Figurative work — the female form in water, at the shore, with shells
  • Shell studies and still life — featuring shells from specific places you love
  • Nantucket properties and landmarks

Maria paints in her established style — oil on canvas with the coastal palette and figurative sensibility she is known for. Commissions are not available for subjects outside this body of work.

Pricing

  • Small (8×10” – 11×14”): from $300
  • Medium (12×16” – 18×24”): from $550
  • Large (24×36” and above): from $900

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot. The balance is due before shipping.

Timeline

Maria currently accepts commissions with a 6–10 week turnaround from deposit to delivery. Rush commissions (under 4 weeks) are available at a 25% surcharge and subject to availability.

The Process

  1. Inquiry: Email with your vision, preferred size, and any reference images or specific details.
  2. Consultation: Maria will respond within 3 business days to discuss the concept and confirm availability.
  3. Deposit & Sketch: Once deposit is received, Maria sends a composition sketch for approval before painting begins.
  4. Progress Update: You receive a mid-process photo when the underpainting is complete.
  5. Delivery: Final photos sent for approval, then the painting ships with a certificate of authenticity and a hand-collected Nantucket shell.
